Bad English

If our newspapers are the paragons of good English, then I'm afraid we are doomed. Just within two sports pages in The New Paper, I found these gems:

"We received an overwhelming number of mails for the question: Who would you want as striker in your team - Wayne Rooney or Fernando Torres."
OK, since when is mail countable? And when does a question not have a question mark?

"This match will be free entry to public, compliments of SAFFC."
So much for the S-League.

"Matches as follow:"
Is the letter 's' at a premium here?

Disgusting.

Formula One comes to Singapore!

Yes, F1 is finally coming to Singapore decades after LKY first said no. We are having a street circuit, along with Valencia (seven-year contract), with the possibility of a night race. We will run the race for five years from 2008, with a possible five-year extension. I'll look to attend at least one race, although it's really gonna set me back.

You know how the ah peks climb trees to watch S-League matches? I've very sure these intrepid freeloaders will find a way to witness this expensive event for free too. Could be embarrassing for Singapore as the camera zooms in on a tree with people in it. But I'll be right behind them. =]
